Introduction

Use this Subject Sampler, Knowledge Hunt and WebQuest to help Year 7 Social Studies' students learn about what it means to be Australian. The goal is to get students engaging in critical thinking. These activities intersect with Unit 1 of the Queensland Social Studies Sourcebook.

It is recommended that students complete the activities in the order suggested (Subject Sampler, Knowledge Hunt, WebQuest) to provide the scaffolding for learning and critical thinking required in the WebQuest.

Overview

 
Main Topic:  What does it mean to be Australian? 
Subtopics:  What groups make up the Australian population?, Where do Australians come from?, What traditions, beliefs, practices, experiences make up the 'Australian' psyche?  How do we perceive our 'Australianess'?
Grade Level:  7 
Subject(s):  Social Studies 
Learning Goal:  Critical Thinking
